slickr-lover,
I'd like to make it clear that I do not doubt your good faith in what you are telling me, but I don't think it solves the mystery.
IMBd says this in one place:
and this in another:
So if there are indeed 12 episodes, what do you reckon the missing episode was called?
Just to further confuse the matter, I found that 'Mackenzie' has an entry in 'Halliwell's Television Companion' (1982 edition) which asserts that it was '10 x 50min episodes!!!
The size of the files certainly indicates that the first episode was a 'feature length' one, but still doesn't create an extra episode. Nor do I believe that IMBd invented one.

Re: Mackenzie (continued)
the network was a British cable channel UK GOLD
ep 1 is 1 hour 30 min, and the other 11 are 45-51 min
did not watch, but glanced thru some eps , and best rainwear is ep 4 , at 38 min
navy blue slicker with a pattern of ducks, or whales, these were popular in late 70s to early 80s

As Domino said. A double first episode.
UK Gold went out of business I believe?
Best wishes

UK Gold, became Dave i think. It's partially owned by BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the BBC responsible for selling programs for cash. That's why so many old BBC programs are on Dave and Dave ja vu
Re: Mackenzie (continued)
Having started this thread off in the Rainwear Discussions section, I can now confirm that there were 12 episodes shown on BBC1 from September 1980 and the first episode was 90 mins, the other 11 were each 50-55 mins in length.
My memory of it was definitely faulty as it is not Lynda Bellingham but Sheila Ruskin who wears the gold cape (which has a pelerine cape incorporated in it).
It is confusing because Mackenzie does bed Ruth (Bellingham) before Diana (Ruskin). Lisa (Tracey Ullman) is Ruth's daughter but not Mackenzie's, though at one point she suspects that she might be. Lisa is initially Mackenzie's son's girlfriend but she falls for his Dad instead. Typical Andrea Newman plot.
Anyway, here's some pics:
Sheila Ruskin in gold cape

Tracey Ullman in pink plastic mac

Re: Mackenzie (continued)
If somebody has these rainwear episodes of Mackenzie on DVD, I'm always willing to trade.
Re: Mackenzie (continued)
Regenhoedje, if you google 'Mackenzie + i-Offer', you'll see that the series on DVD is still available to buy. It's sourced from the UK Gold showing referred to above. I think it has been transcribed from a VHS recording. The raincoat sequences are quite short and, in the case of Tracey Ullman, the movement is rather fast (which is why the pics above are a little blurrred).
The sequence to which Slicker-Lover referred to above is Sheila Ruskin wearing an anorak.

Also Kara Wilson (who plays Mackenzie's wife) is briefly seen in her nurse's uniform raincoat.
