Hello Paul,
The pictures of the blue C&A macs are of the illustrations inside the packaging of the two macs that I bought in C&A in Southend in 1989. I was working in the oil refinery at Corringham at the time, not far from you.

Yes I gathered that my ex girlfriend had hers in 1980 long below the knee and seemed a bit thicker than those.

Re: Photos on Flickr
I don't think we will see magazine covers like that any time soon, which is a shame.
I wish i had kept my mum's catalogues like Kays and Freemans from the 70's and 80's full of lovely see through plastic rainwear (and i seem to remember skirts bizarrely as well). However i don't think many of the pages would have scanned very well as being a horny teenager they got rather used!!!!

Thanks, that are very nice photos on Flickr.
If anyone has hi-res plastic rainwear scans from the 60's, 70's and 80's Kays and Freemans catalagues maybe we could exchange them, I have a lot of scans from old Dutch magazines and catalogues.

Thanks for posting all those photos Taffmac. Such nostalgia.
I recall one or two of them from the time they were published, since 1971 because I'd moved to Blackpool by then.
The Mirror published a photo of one girl wearing a mac in a swimming pool and another one wearing wellies with three plastic macs supposedly for a rainy day on the beach.
I bought two lady's plastic macs together from Woolworths in Blackpool and the assistant said I'd need both of them out there!
When first arriving in the area I stayed in a hotel (so they called it) in Novemeber and December, turned off the bedroom heating and slept in three lady's macs. Memories!

Great batch of picture - such happy memories of yesteryear
Broad minded enough to acknowledge we all enjoy different things:)

Hi Hotwilly,
Most of those items are from the late 70's/early 80's. The pale blue mac with buttons is a genuine Pakamac but it was bought in the 70's and the label says it's made in Taiwan so it's not that old compared to the Pakamacs of the 1950's and 1960's. The pale blue one on the left is a hooded cape which I bought from Plastique Unique. Two of the pink ones were bought in Debenhams, there is a pink double-breasted one from Montcler and the other pink one was bought from the Co-op.
Yes, happy memories indeed !
Got a few more to post when I have chance.
Regards,
Jeff.
