Worst Year Ever

Post by Cherie »

Around the Reading area (UK) has been the very worst I can remember for anything shiny this year. Last year PVC leggings were a thing, but this year I have had six sightings since about July until now. One HH rubbery raincoat, two pairs of PVC leggings and one pair of leather trousers. Thankfully two sightings in my work. Most of these were earlier, and we are now in party season I have seen even less. Gotta hate fashion trends! One minute something is IN then it disappears. I’m hoping all the lovely ladies of the South of England see sense and rediscover the practicality and sexiness of PVC in 2025. Or maybe I need to move house to somewhere that shiny PVC is always in fashion?

I suppose this is fairly typical, shiny rainwear has been declining in the last 30 years or so, although in the last week I have seen a couple of women in PVC, one in an anorak and one in a longer mac. I do wonder sometimes if our memories play tricks on us, perhaps it was not as common as we might think. I was looking at a video on YT dated 1964 when you might have expected to see plenty of women wearing PVC or rubber macs, there is only one woman wearing a mac in a large crowd on what seems to be a cold, breezy day.

Recently at Ipswich train station on a rather damp day there was a couple of pvc rain jackets and a lady waiting on a seat in a see through plastic mac, as well as me in my black transparent pvc u like mac. Then later at Peterborough another lady in a white traditional type plastic mac.

Well, if it wasn't so far away (I'm in France), I could have joined you with my long shiny royal blue pvc raincoat.
