“Your order has been dispatched”
There is something delicious in this message when you know it refers to a new super shiny black PVC trench coat. It was not cheap. Let’s be honest it was flippin expensive, but there was something so alluring about the garment. It helped that web site had a zoom feature, and had an already close up image of the sleeve, complete with strap and buckle near the wrist. The fabric seemed impossibly smooth. After zooming in to the max, I was still unable to see any hint of a texture. Was this the world’s smoothest PVC? I sure hoped so.
“Your order has been received at our depot, and is due for delivery on the 12th of November”
This was exciting, yet also frustrating. I had to wait another whole day. I checked the website again, and re-read their delivery terms as I had done at least four times already.
“Discrete packaging with your purchase carefully handled by our dedicated pickers. 30 day money back guarantee if you are not 100% satisfied”.
“Your order will be delivered today by our driver Charlie. Charlie will contact you by text with a delivery window”.
I threw back the bed covers and readied myself for a refreshing shower. I had told myself I would pick up the delivery from its safe place after work, but late-night doubts haunted my mind. What if it was stolen? What if the driver refuses to leave it?
So I pulled a sickie by video calling my boss from my bed to make sure he knew I was not well. At the end of the call I had a horrible feeling that he might have caught sight of the shiny white plastic duvet for just a moment. I hoped not! But maybe my naughty side was acting up as I made the call wearing nothing as I was sandwiched between PVC sheet and duvet cover, holding the phone high enough (I thought) just to include my head.
“Your driver is two stops away”.
Charlie had already texted me to say they would be there soon. The message looked like it was most probably an Eastern European man, using the somewhat inappropriate introduction of “hello mate”.
But I was dressed ready to answer the door in my favourite satin-look dressing gown, with Japanese print. The one that was actually a type of very shiny nylon and extremely unique.
I heard the dirty white van before I saw it pull up. I ran from the living room and stood in the hallway in anticipation. Soon that lovely brown parcel would be in my hands. The anticipation was causing a stir down below that I could well do without at that moment.
The doorbell rang and I waited the full two seconds I could, so as not to appear too eager.
I opened the door.
Standing in front of me was a girl wearing MY new PVC raincoat. She was not just any girl, she was the red-headed model from the website.
“Where would you like me?”
The End

Great story, well worth pulling the sickie.

I feel the same impatience every time I order a raincoat. The time between the order and the delivery seems endless to me

Re: Expectation (short and not explicit)
Sequels seem really difficult to write. I tried for the museum and the result was horrid! Haven’t even posted the monster.
Partly it’s because each story comes from a moment of inspiration. A friend of mine was ill and had to call an ambulance, that’s what sparked the nurses story. I bought myself something lovely I had been wanting for years and that sparked the delivery story.

Nice twist. Sequals? Hmmm sometimes hard to follow up.
