Most Unexpected Rainwear Find

Post by Cherie »

What was your most surprising place to find rainwear where it wasn’t expected? For me it was an unassuming shop in a village called Modbury in Devon. I was on holiday with my wife (now ex) and we stopped to buy something, I can’t remember what. There was an old fashioned general store selling a bit of everything including clothing, and it had a big circular rail of all kinds of rainwear. Much of it was modern dull materials but there were old fashioned plastic macs and shiny nylon jackets and over trousers. I checked everything out as my wife searched for whatever it was we went in for. It was just so surprising to see this display of lovely rainwear.

How many years ago was this? It would seem that shops like this are almost non-existent now. For me the occasional lucky find in a charity shop is the best I can hope for.

It surprised me that last year I was with a friend to see an old summer house he had bought. We looked in all the rooms that had been cleared out and vacated, but inside a wardrobe in the bedroom there were some old raincoats hanging. Two nylon raincoats and a PVC coat. I asked my friend if I could have them. YES……😂😂

I get an erection at the thought of finding a raincoat in unexpected places.
I've often been to a second-hand store and looked at one rack of coats after another and suddenly there's an old nylon raincoat that should go with the rain gear.
Or out in the country you could also be lucky in the past to find an old raincoat hanging out in the barn.
I have quite a few raincoats myself and I can't always remember where I've hidden them. When I unexpectedly find them again it's just before I come.

I’m going to make a guess at about 15 years ago.

Found and old blue 70’s cagoule hanging on a fence, free to good home, years ago when out for a bike ride. It was a c&a from the 70’s, so i popped it on and carried on riding. Still have it, so i did give it a good home.
Lets get swishy!

I saw those but they only had three left and none my size. Lovely rubbery feel with a basic lining. Lidl had some that were like nylon on the outside and had a chequered plastic lining, and I do mean plastic not rubber, but they were ridiculously large size and like Aldi hardly any left.
