Vintage (80s/90s) Shiny PVC Aladdin Raincoat

Post by Pvc Vinyl Enthusiast »

I managed to find this large (size 10) Aladdin PVC raincoat, made in the 1980s/90s, and I can just about fit into it.

The PVC material is soooo nice: it is smooth, soft, super shiny and squeaky. It has that subtle lingering PVC smell, after all these years.

It is a shame that PVC rainwear is not made like this anymore, most likely due to the hysteria and scaremongering surrounding phthalate-type PVC plasticizers, and the current anti-PVC attitudes.

I love the fine detail on the sleeve cuffs.

I remember similar raincoats for children, Thomas The Tank Engine, Dennis The Menace etc, pity you can't find them for adults as well. Kids loved them, I'm sure they didn't feel self conscious or kinky when they put them on.

As a kid of the 80s I had a turquoise blue one with Disney's Goofy and Daffy Duck characters on the back.

I wish there were adult-sized versions. Maybe not with Disney/Postman Pat/Teenage Mutant Turtles characters, etc, on them, Lol, but nonetheless made from the very same super shiny, squeaky/crackly, smooth and soft PVC material. With the same phthalate plasticizers.

In fact, some years ago a start up called 'Bigkidrainwear' did adult-sized versions of those super-shiny 80s/90s kids raincoats. I bought one from them and was impressed.
