I also experienced wearing a regulation gaberdine mackintosh to school, much to my dismay. Always belted and fastened to the neck, with a full length nylon pakamac when it rained heavily.

Unlike Rives I rather liked the discipline of being tightly belted and restricted in my regulation gabardine raincoat I had to wear to school, always fully buttoned up and belted. I also enjoyed wearing them voluntarily in later life. No sloppiness, every button fully done-up.
