pvc and rubber clothing harder to find

Post by rainwearseeker »

i noticed that when it comes to rainwear or any protective clothing, anything made of rubber is increasing a lot more in scarcity. good luck finding a pair of heavy rubber waders as everything now has to be a breathable material. i know it has been discussed before but pvc rainwear outside of specific companies like PUL are impossible to find unless they are vintage. it is disappointing we are heading into a bygone era where boring materials are used instead.

Better hold on to what you have and take care of it. It is indeed becoming scarce by comparison to the past. I think that Chinese sites like Alibaba and Temu may be the last bastions if PUL a d other specialist sites are no longer around. Best thing to do it buy up the quality stuff and squirrel it away for a future latex and PVC famine.

even alibaba i noticed it is becoming more scarce. the full bodied rubber wader suits are being replaced with the breathable material instead. jin qian no longer seems to exist as they were the first rubber wader suit manufacturer i know of. there are latex clothing sites but they are very expensive.

On that subject I was surprised nobody had snapped this up on eBay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/256742370414

I was tempted but thought I would never wear it so seemed little point. I have too much already.

I've been looking for a single breasted SBR mackintosh for ages - even to buy new - but it seems that Weather Vain is the only place in the world making proper rubber mackintoshes these days - or am I missing something?

even rubber rain boots are becoming harder to find unless going for the high quality brands that are not hunter (they declined in quality ever since their production moved to china).

Even the vintage/2nd hand market has less showing up these days although there seems to be less buyers too. 20 years ago there was loads but a lot of it got expensive. There seems to be less buyers now as you can get some good deals if you can find the ones that aren't over priced but it's harder finding what you want.

and the downside is given it is older it is less likely to be in good condition given how pvc does degrade and rubber is even harder to find in good condition. i still see reversible raincoats that are overpriced.

Can anyone advise where I can get / brand of waders which do not have a polyester lining. I would prefer the inside to be pure pvc or rubber.

There are barely any that have no lining. One brand that comes to mind is the Japanese Shibata which are made from unlined rubber. They quickly get expensive though in Europe due to sending costs and import taxes.
