Made the first step and wore a shiny black mac out with the dog tonight. I see three people while out and one said hello and started talking about dogs to me .It felt great and I will continue and gradually the nights will become lighter and I will be then weaned to wearing my macs in the daytime to.

I also wear my shiny black 'Stutterheim' mac whenever I get the chance, and just about everyone loves it. I receive a lot of compliments on my rainwear.

Only the other day, a pretty Asian pharmacist working in my local chemist (drug store) told me that "I love your raincoat"... bla blah.

This is a bit like how I overcame my fear about wearing a mac out in public, I would wear a long mac out very early on a summer morning when I was unlikely to meet anyone. On one occasion I met a woman walking her dog, I was gripped by the fear that she might think I was a flasher but she just said hello as she passed and I realised that most people are not bothered by what you are wearing. It feels liberating having lost (most) of my fear about wearing a mac in public.

Gay is Gay. If you aren't gay then you're not gay. What other people think isn't your business.
You appear to have a very similar taste in plastic and shiny colourful rainwear as I. Colourful plastic clothing "sparks joy" so I have decided to wear it often. I now find that I have much more interest in how I dress. I'm generally happier. By inviting my rainwear self into my every day life, a gentle, very creative and social part of me is much more present on a day to day basis. My wife noticed this as well and loves the this part of me.
In the past I used to ask my partners to occasionally wear plastic rainwear as it excited me. Not too long ago I realised that their acceptance had everything to do with my acceptance of this part of my self. This is true of strangers as well. If it occurs to me to wear plastic then I do. Life is much easier now.
