I have done nearly the same some years ago in South Germany ,in Oberstdorf in a holyday.
There is a waterfall in a small brook , called Faltenbach .
When it had rained much I went to that waterfall in a cape , boots and raintrousers to look how big it was. You could approach it in 5 meters.
The water was very cold ....
