Lack of High St Rainwear

Post by pvc_pete »

Just thinking over the weekend about the lack of any pvc, plastic or PU rainwear to speak of in High St shops.

Apart from Top Shop and Miss Selfridge stocking shiny rainwear (although mostly online rather than in store), I can't think of any other retailer selling any this year.

I was wondering if this is due to the fact that so many music festivals are not happening this year. With Glastonbury not on and a few other being cancelled, i think many retailers have cut back on wet weather gear. Probabaly because festivals are one of the few times now where younger people will wear sensible rain protection, rather than hoodies and umbrellas.

Any other thoughts?

Maybe cost of production for decent rainmacs/raincoats?
Cost of oil which they are made of?
That could be one reason?

I have not noticed much in the way of new rainwear appearing online either. I subscribe to most of the major fashion outlets and none of them are doing much right now. I'm still spewing that I missed the boat on those yellow Pull & Bear raincoats ... they are gorgeous!!
