Rainwear in public

Post by Gerlid »

Have seen several discussions about beeing out in public dressed in rainwear. Ok, on a rainy it’s nothing odd about it but on a sunny day, it may look a little bit odd. Here i Sweden we don’t see so many Macs, we have more jackets and pants. Still it can be considered a little bit strange to walk around in a heavy PVC gear on a sunny day. And it’s to hot 😅, have had my thick PVC rainwear on my sailing boat and that was hot.

So I have bought pretty thin nylon track suits, found several second hand, and they are so soft and lovely to wear. Sometimes as underwear and many times just on bare skin and nothing more on.
No problems to be out walking our dog, nobody reacts on this track suits. But most people have something under I guess.
But it is a nice way to wear nylon cloathes in public in fine weather.

What do you do if you like to wear your favorite rainwear on a sunny day?

I don't. I am in London this weekend where it is really warm. Almost everybody is walking around in t shirts and shorts and that is plenty. No danger of any rain so the rainwear stays home.

I wear it when I do a short walk with my dog. Tell people the true, I have my rainpants and rubber boots together like the fire fighters and it's the fastest to put on if it hurries to get out with the dog out of schedule and I'm not already dressed for outside. It seems to work.

Sometimes I wear my pvc raingear with rubber booys under my Musto breathable gear when sailing.
Then I can enjoy pvc gear in sunny weather.

I've mentioned it before, but I often wear one of my knee-length nylon raincoats in the sunshine. In the old days, these raincoats were used as all-weather coats and therefore good for protecting against the wind.
A nylon raincoat also looks more discreet than if it were a heavy PVC raincoat or rubber raincoat. When you walk around with an open nylon raincoat that is not buttoned up, no one notices. And then there's the nice feeling of warm nylon on your skin and the noisy flapping of nylon. As long as you don't sweat.

I'll always make sure I'm wearing a raincoat, or rubber boots. I'll always have gear in my car too...just in case!

I love to wear my rainwear out in public as it's the best way to enjoy getting wet or even soaked in it, my favourite time to wear a raincoat out is when it's really windy as it helps the process of getting wet.

I love to wear rainwear out in semi public too, ie in a woodland in a rural area. There is nothing better than being under 1 or 2 layers of old fashioned non breathable waterproofs concealed under more up to date sometimes breathable gear. Gets quite hot and sweaty if the weather changes whilst out which is even better.

I often hide my pvc rainwear under breathable gear. That whay I can wear pvc gear around other people when it's not raining.
