Where's your yacht?

I wish when I went for a walk in the marina here I saw others dressed as well as you both !

I remember in the late 1980's the marina here in south wales had three or four chandlery shops that sold wonderful rain wear for boat owners.

I can remember saving up my part time job money and buying a very Bright Cherry Red plastic raincoat. It was quite thick, very shiny with a large hood and deep thick pockets. I think it was either made by Souwester clothing or Helly Hansen in the days before lifeless goretex.

It took me about five weeks to save up for the raincoat and then once I had the money I spent half an hour in the shop looking at rope and charts etc while I waited for the girl who worked there to take over from the man at the till, so I could feel easier buying it !

I can remember being at the till when she asked had i tried it on ? I said no so she made me put it on there and then, just as a load of men and women came into the shop. It was both quite embarrassing but very thrilling also.
Anyway, the girl said that It would be better if I had a larger one in case I needed to wear a jumper under it, so with that she went looking for another one.

The one she came back with was quite bigger and heavier, but alas was an even brighter poppy red and looked like glass it was so shiny, needless to say it made quite a loud squeeking noise even if I moved slightly in it.

I asked her for a bag to carry it away in, but like most sensible girls then said that it had begun to pour down outside so it would be better if I kept it on.
She had'nt thought anything strange about my buying such a bright coloured mac so I should'nt have thought anything about it, but of course I had to walk to the bus station wearing it but in those days no one thought anything strange about it.
