interesting how popular rainwear is in Asia now. in the 70s and 80s women in Asia carried umbrellas only.

It seems to vary from one country, and even one region to another. In some parts of the Philippines, almost everyone wears rainwear of some kind; other parts, it's almost none

even in the USA and Canada in the 70s rainwear was much more popular on the east coast/midwest than on the west coast. and it had to be cultural, as rainfall in Seattle is as much/more than Boston or Toronto
