Caught Out

I know it has been posted before, but let’s hear about when you were caught doing something you shouldn’t with rainwear, and I don’t necessarily mean just enjoying yourself in supposed private.
I had hardly any shiny rainwear growing up so loved it when I got a shiny blue nylon coat. It was not quilted but had a stuffing and drab lining. I “accidentally” ripped the lining and over time all the stuffing happened to find its way out. Eventually the lining started to come away until I was left with an unlined nylon jacket. Initially my mother never noticed but at some point she must have spotted it and I was in a lot of trouble, but she didn’t confiscate it. When the coat was new it had a stiffness and was very nice to the touch, but as it aged it felt less like nylon. As far as I can remember that was the only shiny rainwear I ever had of my own growing up.

In my case I was "caught out" a couple of years ago. The following story is unfortunately true. For a few years now, I have sometimes enjoyed a rainy day out on my bicycle, I have found this is an ideal way to go out in public wearing shiny rainwear. I think I can guarantee what happened to me one rainy day in May would not happen to you. I set off in a long PVC mac with my PVC shorts on underneath, anticipating an enjoyable day out in the rain. I pedalled up the hill, along Station Road, just as I get into the town centre, a policewoman steps into the road, and holds her hand up for me to stop. What on earth can she want with somebody riding a bicycle, I thought. She comments on how well dressed I was for the weather, she then asks me my name, then its "we'd like to talk to you about allegations of stalking". My world is instantly turned upside down. In a few seconds there are two other police officers on the scene, another woman and a policeman, who turns out to be the officer in charge. I was taken back home so that I could get changed and to let the officer search my house. They took my mac and my PVC shorts, as well as some other clothing away as evidence, while I was taken to the custody suite in a nearby city. After several hours at the police station being questioned, I was allowed to go. In the end charges of stalking were never brought, but after about a year I had to go to court on charges of criminal damage and theft.
To show the background to these events, I had taken revenge against a former employer who decades ago had done his level best to chip away at what little confidence I had, continually criticising my work and doing his best to find fault when there was nothing really wrong. This treatment was not given to other members of staff who were mostly women a lot older than me, with the result that I felt that there was something fundamentally wrong with the way I worked, a feeling that has persisted up to this day. I often carried out attacks on his car and other property in the early morning when it was raining, to cover up the sound of my footsteps, and I always wore my mac when I went to do this. The officers must have looked at cctv footage from the scene, when the first policewoman saw me wearing my PVC mac she must have realised that it was me. Looking back on the five years I spent working for this cunning , arrogant, perverse bully, I think of him as little better than a child molester in terms of the psychological damage he caused me.

Gosh Smooth and Shiny, that was a lot more than I was expecting. Goes to show that you should never take the law into your own hands.

A few years back I liked wearing my clear plastic PUL sauna suit under my normal Regatta over trousers and cagoule when walking the dog. Meeting other people was rare on my route through woods, but one time I met a lady walking several dogs and we chatted for ages. When I got home I realised my sauna suit top had risen up and was visible above around my neck, I was mortified to think she must have wondered what on earth I was wearing and in any case the rain had stopped and it was getting quite warm as we chatted so she must have wondered why I didn’t unzip my top. Didn’t walk that way for a few months!

I've never had the nerve to try walking in the woods with any of my plastic gear showing unless it's a raincoat over my normal clothes when it's actually raining. I have several woods trails within walking distance from the house, and dozens within a few minutes' drive. (I'm in western Washington.) One place has so many trails that even if the parking lot is full I might walk for an hour and not meet anyone. But if I was in plastics and tried that, it'd be Grand Central Station.

Why didn't you just leave.

It was not my intention to show off my plastic suit under my nylon rainwear. A Regatta nylon rain suit is easy wearing in public so long as the weather is wet or overcast with the threat of rain. The only thing I have to watch out for is that the over trouser pockets are just slits to allow access to your real pockets underneath, but at the wrong (or right) angle you could see the clear plastic underneath which I’m always careful to cover.

One day during the summer holidays I was walking around outside my apartment doing some cleaning and gardening.
I had a nylon raincoat on which I had tucked into my shorts so that the coat looked like a shirt. I do this often but suddenly one of my friends came to visit. I couldn't do anything so I pretended nothing happened and he didn't comment that I was wearing a nylon raincoat.
Afterwards it was a lovely liberating feeling - imagine if you could just walk around in a nylon raincoat without anyone commenting on it.
