Getting Old & Old Raincoats

I've noticed lately that there is a lot of excitement and talk about nylon, plastic or PVC rainwear. Most of which I do like. (I have several PVC-u-Like macs that are truely wonderful.) However, I've also noticed a distinct reduction in mentions of old fashioned raincoats - the rubber-lined (or rubber coated) cotton macs, heavy rubber-lined riding macs, SBR, or other rubberised rainwear. These are without doubt my favourite raincoats but as I'm now into my 70's I wonder if there is a changing of the generation.

I think it is fabulous that us oldies are seeing and giving way to a whole new generation of rainwear lovers whatever the material.

I’m also of advanced years and agree about the reduction in old style rainwear. More often than not I see people out and about getting soaked in tee shirts and jeans because being prepared seems to be a thing of the past. Growing up we were told to dress appropriately, and if it was raining, or chance of rain, we’d get out a raincoat just as everyone else did. Unless you go for the hyper technical (expensive) rainwear today you tend to get showerproof not waterproof. Bring back the good old plastic Mac is what I say!

I am also in my mid 70s and been a plastic raincoat fan since i was always made to wear my pac a mac to school, mum used to make me wear it even when not raining. I have been lucky to find a few ladies that also made me wear my pac a macs. Raining today so out in my mac.

My likes have changed somewhat over the years, although I always liked PVC macs, back in the 1980's I would not have dared to buy one, let alone wear one in public, it was looked on as "women's wear". I always liked cagoules, and they were my favourite for years until I started to use the internet and I bought myself one of the Jeantex macs. Now I wear a long shiny mac out in public frequently.

I am 60 years old and I am and have always been very enthusiastic about the old nylon raincoats from the 60's.
I have a few of these nylon coats and use them daily.
