AI generated rainwear images

Post by Cherie »

Strolling through the Internet looking for rainwear pictures I came across a site talking about how sophisticated AI images could show the shine and texture of complex surfaces such as wet raincoats. It had a couple of pictures which to be honest I could not tell were not real. Unfortunately I can’t find that link again. But it begs the question of how we feel about the idea of entirely AI created pictures of rainwear?

I've tried creating AI rainwear images with very mixed results. Its easy to tell they are not 'real'.

Personally, I prefer the "real thing" by far.

That is a very good article on AI thanks for sharing SanneRWP. The state of AI generated images is coming on in leaps and bounds and I predict that soon traditional photography will be relegated only to provide input to AI systems. I had a play with ChatGPT and asked it questions about rainwear related topics and it’s amazing how convincing it delivers answers yet most of the content was factually incorrect. Do we care about truth if something seems convincing? Are we happy to accept an answer well written that is not right over one poorly written but correct. A photograph is supposed to be a record of an event and in that respect all AI generated photos are a lie.

With AI getting better I expect a huge increase in AI generated images, which would make them boring as the novelty wears off. At a later point AI will be so common that everyone can create hundreds of images in seconds, so to add value a creator will need to go a step further and add something extra. Here I can imagine huge opportunities to use AI images as input for bigger projects, think comics, animated stories, etc.

Btw, I wrote about AI generated rainwear images here: https://rainwearpassion.com/community/a ... -rainwear/
Great write-up there! Thank you for sharing this

Is Midjourney easy to use? I think you have to pay a monthly sub to use it?

Interesting article Sanne! Those AI generated photos are starting to get surprisingly good. I am curious how this will develop further.

Photography is no doubt an art but the subject is always of a real thing in one way or another and usually does not seek to deceive directly. Using AI to generate images for yourself and experiment is great and your examples are very compelling. What concerns me is that people will cease to both with live photography and pass off AI as truth. If you look on Pinterest virtually none of the images indicate where they have come from or why they are posted other than I’m the context of the other photos within the account/group. So it will be easy to pass off AI images in that instance.

AI will allow a user to generate exactly what they want to see. Which using a camera is very expensive and or illegal. So age, sex, people, clothes, background will be generated on your computer. The law will have quite a time catching up. It an AI image like a pencil drawing, or a painting. Who will be liable for the images produced. Will Porn sites shut down, or cater for the new way of doing things.
