80's police waterproofs

Post by long91 »

Does anyone remember those long black heavy duty black nylon single breasted raincoats that the police wore in the 80's? I just found one along with matching pants and a very shiny nylon police anorak from the same era. I remember getting to occasionally wear one at a cousins house when I was a kid and I loved it. I also managed to buy one in the mid 80's from an army and navy surplus store but not long after my mum found my nylon stash....and it was gone.
Both the raincoat and pants have a thinner nylon lining which is also very stiff and rustly. The anorak is made of a quite shiny satin looking heavy duty nylon with the usual quilted lining and also feels nice. After a hose down and a good wash the raincoat and pants are like new.

Nice, the last one and the sepia one makes me think of a fashion magazine or something
Why is that then?

There has been a lot of police rainwear over the years. The traditional wool blend cape. The black Gannex Mac and a long foam filled nylon coat. The long nylon mac gave way to a short coat and nylon leggings. Having said all of that it's a rare sight to see an officer walking these days.
