The SE of England is not my neck of the woods so I'm not sure. This is what Wikipedia says about 'Mapp & Lucia':
(1) "Mapp and Lucia is a British television series, set in the fictional Sussex coastal town of Tilling and based on three 1930s novels by E. F. Benson, beginning with Mapp and Lucia. It was produced by London Weekend Television, filmed in Rye (on which Benson based Tilling) and neighbouring Winchelsea in the 1980s".
(2) "Production: Filming took place in Rye and Winchelsea as well as Kent – Chilham features in episodes 1, 2 and 10, doubling as Risholme and Hever Castle features as the residence of Poppy, Duchess of Sheffield".

Prunella Scales looks to be wearing bib and brace trousers under her lovely mac to me.

A very commendable effort - better than I could have guessed. I really do need to brush up on my Kentish castles.spitfire617 wrote: ↑August 7th, 2022, 2:35 pmClose enough lol lolrothbhoy wrote: ↑August 7th, 2022, 2:34 pmThe SE of England is not my neck of the woods so I'm not sure. Although it looks a little like Upnor, the location is definitely Rye, Sussex. The "castle" is in fact the Ypres Tower, pronounced "Wipers Tower". As far as I can see, the rest of the outdoor scenes were also filmed in Rye, a town I am pleased to know intimately. The town of Tilling was based on Rye (and one of the rivers going through the town is the Tillingham).
Personally I prefer the version of the series with Miranda Richardson & Anna Chancellor, also (outdoor scenes) filmed exclusively in Rye.
