Right from a young age I was attracted to girls who wore specific rainwear. That was the initial attraction. As I grew older this changed, but it was still part of the agenda. To this day, a shiny mac will always turn my head. No matter who is wearing it.

When I was about 16 years old I had a good friend with whom I regularly went cycling. During one of those rides we got into a heavy shower and we were soaked with rain. On the next ride he took his raincoat with him, just to be sure, plus an extra one for me. I didn't think it was necessary at the time, but the jacket went with us anyway. It was a yellow "friesennerz" type raincoat with blue inside and this one belonged to his sister. At that time I was madly in love with his sister and I still regret that I not even tried it on. Maybe I was affraid that my rainwear-fetish was being discovered? Unfortunately it didn't rain that day so I never wore that jacket although I could have legally done it...

Under what circumstances would wearing a "yellow "friesennerz" type raincoat with blue inside" be illegal, may I ask ??????

Perhaps it was about what he was going to do with the blue inside?

As long as the raincoat belongs to somebody else without their approval.

It was a thicker plastic than the normal so had a nice crinkly noise. I remember being very envious. Then at age twelve, she had grown out of it and it was passed on to me, 'that will do you when you do your paper round'. Initially forced to wear, then for the next two years, any excuse, I would wear it. Hooded, I was so happy. I just loved the feel. Fifty years later nothing has changed.
Wow, Kaggy, wish I knew you back then when you used to wear it for your paper-round !

My parents were ski instructors, so I grew up living in the Alps, beautiful but often cold and wet. They had several holiday let chalets, as a nine year old kid, I often helped tidy up between lets. There were often items left behind, and quite commonly coats and jackets left hanging hooked on the back of bedroom doors, overlooked on departure. I had for some reason always been attracted by the look of shiny ski anoraks, quilted and glistening, even better if they had a hood. The day I found my first one hanging there on the door, Mum was cleaning the kitchen, I couldn't resist, I quietly closed the door and unhooked it. So soft and shiny smooth. The black nylon glinted in the semi darkness. I pulled it on, although slightly too big, it seemed to cuddle me, I zipped the front up and pulled on the huge fur trimmed attached hood. I will never forget that momment. I was hooked! I rubbed the soft material and stroked the thick fluffy fur. I was totally smitten by it. My bubble was burst as my mother entered with a 'what do you think you are doing?'. I remember quickly dropping the hood and mumbling some excuse. She seemed ok with it and suggested I keep it safe in case the owners asked for it to be sent on to them. It wasn't. And so started my love of shiny hooded anoraks and macs. For the next few years I collected several more including two yellow and blue hooded rubberised cotton anoraks that were very common in europe in the sixties and seventies. Also a wonderful shiny polyurethane, dark blue padded jacket with a big fur trimmed hood but it had a lovely rubbery smell to it. Would you believe fifty years on I still have it, and still wear it!
Not quite handmedowns more handmeons!
My parents never objected, and encouraged me to wear my 'finds', I guess it saved them having to spend out on outerwear for me!
Happy days. Even now, when I stay in hotels, the first thing I do is check behind the bedroom door. Forever hopeful!!!
Several years ago, while working in Stockholm, I stayed in a quaint hotel in the suburbs. I checked in for three weeks. I had a small sitting room, shower room and bedroom. I dropped my case onto the bed, and noticed hanging on the back of the door, a green jacket. On further inspection, a rather nice shiny polyurethane puffer style padded cagoule, overhead style, with its big pocket across the front and short zip to the large hood. It looked pretty new. It felt very soft and tactile. Being me, I had to try it on! A bit on the larger size, me being a bit skinny then, but lovely all the same. I hung it back up. Should I hand it in to reception? Nah. If someone wants it back, they will phone and the hotel will collect and forward it on to them. Otherwise.......
Several years later, it still hangs in my wardrobe, my favorite winter jacket, Ive put on a few pounds so it fits perfectly now. When working away, which I often do, I too, check the back of my hotel room doors, you never know what might be hanging there!

As a young girl of about 6-7 I remember my mum buying me a PVC raincoat, it was in the mid 70s and I loved it, I remember telling a friend at school P3 that my mum had bought me this lovely coat. It was white and had flowers all over it, very soft and lined. I guess that was my first feeling for PVC, LATEX and the start of my fetish.
Later in life my mum bought me a C&A jelly coat full length, it was pink, Gorgeous I loved it. I remember going for a walk with a neighbour who had just moved into our area. She was blonde slim and a beautiful young woman about 25 years of age. I was about 14-15 and she taught me how to wear the jelly coat with a belt and a scarf in the rain. Her name was Helen. I idolised her...Her jelly coat was zipped at the front and very loose at the back. I loved our walks together. She was very very fashionable and a bit kinky with it.. On evening I asked to try on her coat, God it was soooo soft and rubbery... it just fell right across my shoulders and I remember giving our a little yell of delight.. Helen just said it suited me and smiled...

Memories do make one smile.

As a youngster, my first memories of my fascination with rainwear was when my Dad bought my mum a shiny coat from Finland, where he had been working. It was a dark grey colour and was lined with fur. It had a hood which was also trimmed with fur. Any opportunity, I would stroke it and bury my face in it. I dont know what it was made of but it had an odd smell, but was so soft and smooth. She wore it a lot, I remember my Dad always encouraging her to wear it. It swished as she walked, I remember looking at her when she put her hood up, thinking she looked like an Angel! Dad was always cuddling her. Now I know why!!!! Thats probably where I got it from. Is pervyness inherited? I love all shiny macks. I love fur trims, not real fur though, I hasten to add! In my mid teens I remember finding that wonderful coat in a suitcase in the loft. I sneaked it down into my bedroom and used to take it to bed with me. It remained my constant bed companion until girls arrived. I still had the urge there. I never found another coat like it, but in the early seventies the 'Boho' hippy suede coat arrived. Very soft with its fur trim all around the edges including its big hood. So I bought my girlfriend one of these. Amazingly, a couple of years later, Debenhams brought out a range of shiny silvery macks with a fur trimmed hood. Guess what, she got one. That evening, aged 19, I proposed, while she was wearing that gorgeous mack. We have been married over 40 odd years. She knows the story, she will still indulge me, Ive never pushed the issue. She still doesn't quite gets why I keep buying her shiny coats and macks. But never complains, as she knows, I will always be close, to hold her hand and of course, just like my Dad did, lots of cuddles!

My goodness. That brings back memories. I loved those suede fully fur trimmed hooded coats. Very sexy. Debenhams was always a good source for shiny macs, and yes I remember those silvery grey ones. They were buttoned and belted, very glossy with a big fur trimmed hood. I wanted to buy one for myself but didnt have the guts then. I was still in my late teens.
