How come there are millions of pictures on line of ladies in their beautiful shiny raincoats and yet on a rainy day you struggle to see one ???

Because many of these models are posing for several different pictures, which then results in much less women than picures. And from the remaining women only a few might own what they wear in that pictures. And from those who own auch an item only a few might be outside on a rainy day.
It was quite different from the sixties to the early eighties when shiny coats were not considered rainwear only but also chic general outerwear. Back then you could often see women wearing them on sunny days as well. There must have been millions of them manufactured back then. Wonder where they all are. I guess only veeeery few are still around and the rest have been incinerated or are now buried in landfills under rotting garbage.
P.S: The last woman I saw wearing shiny rainwear was about two hours ago !

I suppose the reason why you rarely see them being worn these days is down to changing fashion. That and the development of breathable fabrics such as Goretex. The drawback with breathable fabrics is that as soon as they get wet outside they stop being breathable.

Goretex = camping gear.
That is good for camping but if I am going out I want to be "Well Protected" and fashionable.
