My mother used to refer to my regulation school gabardine raincoats using the word "mackintosh". However she never used that term when referring to my plastic pakamac, which was never worn for school, always referring to it as my "plastic mac". I think she probably regarded its original cost of 10 shillings from Woolworths as not worthy of the posher term "mackintosh"!

My mum always said pacamac and rain bonnet and ex wife it was either mac or rainmac.
