I remember the late eighties very well. There seemed to be quite a few mid calf length macs around. My girlfriend, who became my wife, bought her first one from a John Lewis’s and it was a sexy shiny black trench in what I suspect was a PU material. Fairly thin and lightweight but very shiny indeed. It often seemed shinier at night. She wore it frequently, rain or shine and I think it lasted for about 12 years by which time the vivid shine had gone. Purchased many macs since then but generally of a shorter length. Would love to see that longer style return, offset with some stockings and high heels.

Yes, the late 80s and early 90s were the heyday for such macs. By the mid-90s they started to disappear but you could still see the odd lady wearing one into the late 90s and even into the early 2000s.

My new pvc macs lost their shine in weeks I've used stuff called vinyl care that you use in car interiors it has successfully added some shine back to the macs I've tried leather stuff on pvc and adds shine back

Hunter (of the glossy wellies fame) do a Rubber Buffer that works well on vinyl/PVC macs.
