I have never had the same desire for the nylon variety, managed to convince my mother to purchase plastic raincoats every time. I still wear one these even though they are increasingly difficult to obtain.

Good for you. Although at the time I was never in agreement with mother about my macs 🙁🙁🙁 so me persuading her between one style and another was never going to happen. Now on the other hand 😉 I'd love to be taken by the hand to the outfitters!!

Looking back on it, there certainly is something about being forced to wear a plastic raincoat, :) :) :)

Sure. I agree..... not having the choice and surrendering all control has a certain attraction now. At the time however.......

My earliest memory included my parents buying me a fawn double textured riding Mac. That was in the late 1940s, since that time I’ve had similar Macintosh’s as I grew up. I still wear one today!

Absolutely. Especially since in those days it was women (mothers, aunts, big sisters) who generally took the lead in such "coercion", particularly where plastic pants were concerned. The phrase "Just in case" engenders a frisson to this day.

Riding Macs were heavy duty, but totally waterproof! They were basically made for equestrians back in those days.
