Vintage Helly Hansen PVC rainwear

Post by Oljebuksa »

A few months ago I found my all time favourite gear online. Helly Hansen bibs an jacket in thick, soft PVC from the late 60`s/ early 70`s. They where both «brand new», never used, and in it’s original plastic bag from the factory. Has anyone else found vintage gear that’s never been used.

Still I have my HH from the time we had a sailing boat. One yellow set, jacket and bib pants and one white set. Quite thick PVC on what I think is some kind of nylon on the inside. Really nice to have with nothing under.

But they are used a lot, both by me, my girlfriends and later my wife. So ther has been a lot of fun in those HH:s. A long day in the cockpit on a sailing boat gives a lot of time for playing with each other. And sometimes quite wet from sprays from the sea, really exciting

Sailed for many years with a yellow HH set that consisted of dinghy pants and anorak.
Sailed both dinghy and keelboat with this lovely set which over time became very well-used.
At that time, sailing clothes were very durable.
The rubber boots were replaced over time.
There were, among other things, blue/white sailing boots from Viking, light blue sailing boots from Elvström with dark blue details.
Loved sailing with this sturdy sailing rig even when the sun was shining.
It got wonderfully wet on the outside from rain and splashes. Wonderfully wet on the inside from sweat after many hours of use. During long sailings it happened that I peed inside the pants.
Unfortunately my old set needed replacing. I have a similar one today but would like to find a matching anorak.
