A special Christmas gift M/F, rainwear, non-explicit)

Post by mason »

Yes, I'm aware that Christmas is 6 days past, but it took me longer than I expected to write this nice little tale, which I sincerely hope you enjoy. As always, feedback is always welcome & appreciated.

A CHRISTMAS SURPRISE (M/F, rainwear, NO nudity or sex)

Swept along in a milling, eddying river of people, I couldn’t help wonder what I was doing here. Everyone seemed so happy and I sighed inwardly. There’s no place lonelier than a big city when you’re single. I’m not rich or famous, nor am I particularly handsome. If pressed, most people would describe me as average. I’m never going to win a football final off my own boot or discover a source of never-ending power to end the globe’s reliance on fossil fuels. It doesn’t help that I’m not very confident around the opposite sex. I don’t know how the ladies manage to sense my anxiety around them, but they … know. My less than conventional, how shall we say, ‘interests’ also don’t lend themselves well towards meeting girls. I sighed inwardly and continued in the direction of the department store near my work. I only had one hour

Everyone was on a mission. Someone accidentally bumped into me and swore viciously in my direction before I even had a chance to apologise. So much for the ol’ Christmas spirit, I gloomily thought. I glanced sideways. It was unseasonally dark and gloomy. The street was slick with rain. A strong gust of wind struck me and I shivered as rainwater struck my exposed neck. As usual, the bloody Met people had gotten the forecast wrong and I’d come unprepared for the weather. Otherwise, I would have been able to enjoy this late Friday late afternoon much more. The Christmas decorations and lights that the city had hung everywhere were mirrored on the shiny tarmac, providing another wholly unexpected and very pretty light show.

Perhaps ten or so minutes later, I finally made it inside the giant emporium. A relic of the late eighteen hundreds, it'd survived two wars, a great depression, the coronavirus pandemic and even the technological terror of the Internet. The covid and subsequent lockdowns led to millions obtaining their shopping fix from the comfort and safety of home. Somehow, the astute owners managed to negotiate all of these hurdles with a dedicated shopping website and delivery system that even the likes of Amazon tried to copy. They also enticed customers back into their stores with a combination of quality merchandise and excellent customer service. Think Singapore Airlines are good? These people got them beat. Their smiles and product knowledge are amazing.

I wandered down the crowded aisles with my shopping. Despite the crush of customers, I never had to wait much more than a few minutes for my purchases to be rung up and bagged. The women’s clothing section was only metres away so I decided to check it out. Hopefully they might have something interesting. Hopefully. I wasn’t optimistic though. The item (or items?) I was hoping to find rarely appeared for sale anywhere, never mind the hallowed halls of the store.

It was slightly less busy here as the majority of shoppers were waiting for the Boxing Day sales in the hope of scoring some major discounts. As usual, there wasn’t much of real interest. Oh well. I hadn’t expected to find anything I wanted. A sudden gleam caught my eye and I blinked with disbelief. I’d never expected to see anything like this inside this slightly staid store of all places. The raincoat could have come straight from the set of Bladerunner. Time slowed to a standstill as I approached the mannequin modelling the most amazing glass-clear rain mac I’d ever seen. They’d put it up on a stand to maximise visibility. Directly below the statuesque mannequin, several racks displayed a couple of dozen similar macs and unbelievably, several matching jelly-type jackets.

“Oh my God,” I breathed as I ran my hand down the sleeve of the nearest raincoat, caressing the impossibly soft smooth plastic (or PVC?) with my fingers. Whoever designed these gorgeous coats absolutely nailed it. The beautiful plastic was soft enough to be somewhat malleable, yet just stiff enough to hold its shape. I could not imagine what wearing it would be like. My chest was so tight that it actually hurt as I held the raincoat aloft for a closer look. More details began to emerge while I incredulously studied its translucent smooth folds. The incredible mac actually buttoned up from the neck all the way down to the knees. Half of its dozen or so buttons were protected by a double flap, designed to keep out water. A lovely, snug-looking drawstring hood also ensured the wearer would never have to worry about ruined hair. It also incorporated a wide belt held in place by four or five beltloops. I could see a stainless-steel buckle in front. The details didn’t end there though. There were three pockets covered by strong flaps held in place with press studs. Two of them were clearly for the wearer’s hands while the third rectangular pocket located around chest height was large enough to accommodate a mobile phone. Even the sleeves hadn’t been neglected, with a neat pair of cuffs adorning the end of each one.

Before I had a chance to react, a smooth, cultured voice interrupted my reverie. “Good evening. Can I help you?” it said with an ever-so-slight note of amusement.

“Um… I… I’m OK,” I stuttered. Somewhat embarrassed, I half-turned to face the woman facing me. My breath caught. She was gorgeous. Absolutely gorgeous. Beautiful women are a dime a dozen around here, but this heavenly Eurasian girl was something else again. Her conservative black and white department store uniform barely concealed the delightful swell of her breasts. According to the staff name tag she was wearing, her name was Noelani. She was so far above my pay grade that it just didn’t compute. Slim and supple as a reed, her body was to die for. Her ruby lips creased in a warm smile as I gazed full into her lovely heart shaped face. The girl’s dark, smoky eyes met mine with an insouciant confidence I knew I would never be able to match. She’d tied her hair back in a neat ponytail and it made this gorgeous Suzy Wong creature look far younger than her obviously tender years. I felt my heart contract painfully as she stood just feet away from me. The awful Christmas muzak faded away to nothingness while I vainly attempted to recover my composure.

“How is your Christmas shopping going?” Noelani asked. Her soft voice reminded me of the wind sighing through the willows lining the river bank near my house.

“Um… I’m just about done, thank God.” I’d already completed my shopping but I wasn’t about to let her know.

I haven’t even started mine yet,” she sighed. “I always leave it to the last minute.”

“Same here,” I chuckled. I’d only met her half a minute ago and already I (almost) felt as if I’d known her for years. Well, that’s what they’re paid to do, I thought. They were famous for their friendly staff, after all.

“It’s really difficult buying presents for everyone,” Noelani observed. “Sometimes I just give up and buy gift cards.”

“Join the club,” I sighed. She obviously had a boyfriend. There was no way she would be single. “But honestly, I think presents are much nicer though,” I mused.

“Oh I could not agree more!” Noelani’s smile was a sun. “It’s much more fun unwrapping a lovely big present.”

I couldn’t help laughing. “Oh, absolutely.”

Noelani’s next words shocked me to the core. “Who are you buying this for?” she casually asked.

“Um…” Caught completely off-guard, I stumbled over my reply. “Mum. For my mum.”

“Oh… ok.” Noelani’s grin told me that she didn’t believe a single word of my reply and I felt my face heat with bright, hot embarrassment. The raincoat in my hand was going to be a Christmas gift. For myself. I’ve got this thing about wearing plastic raincoats, you see. There’s something about the look and feel of plastic rainwear which just does it for me like nothing else. I knew that I would never be able to explain any of this to the lovely girl facing me. She was… so normal. Unlike me.

“It’s such a beautiful raincoat,” Noelani said, with more than a little feeling. “I’m sure someone will be very happy wearing it.”

“Yes,” I carefully agreed. “Definitely.”

“What size are you looking for?” she eventually asked after another awkward pause.

I thought for a moment. “About the same size as me,” I replied before realizing I’d made a mistake.

“Right.” Noelani’s smile was a sun. “Would you like me to show you what it looks like?”

“U-uh, sure…” I hesitantly replied.

“Lucky we’re the same height, eh?” Noelani giggled before selecting another raincoat from the rack and draping it over her shoulders in one fluid motion. I couldn’t believe that this was happening. The closest I’d ever gotten to a pretty girl in a raincoat before was YouTube. Less than a couple of feet away from me, the prettiest girl I’d ever seen was donning an absolutely gorgeous plastic raincoat - specifically for me. My chest was so tight that it hurt while she carefully fastened each button. I almost lost it when she pulled the belt savagely tight. Not even my wildest, most pornographic dreams came close to the show she was putting on for me. After giving the belt one last tug, Noelani looked upwards and our eyes met again. “Let’s see if the hood fits,” Noelani purred. Before I had a chance to draw breath or react in any other way, she pulled the hood up and drew it tight around her face. Noelani’s fingers flew as she pulled the laces as tight as they would go, perfectly framing her beautiful features in a crinkly, translucent dome of rippling plastic. Her great cheesy grin was wider than ever while she knotted the laces under her chin. It was obvious that Noelani was enjoying my discomfiture. I simply had no idea what to say. My mouth was a desert.

“Looks like it’s a perfect fit.” Noelani smiled conspiratorially. She slowly spun around with an absolutely intoxicating snap, crackle and pop of plastic. Her raincoat coruscated with light. Oh my God. I’d never seen anything so beautiful all my life. Noelani was an angel from Heaven.

“Y… yeah, I think so,” I carefully agreed. Did this girl have any idea how badly she was affecting me?

It was precisely this moment that Noelani decided to throw a curveball. “Of course, the only way to be sure that your raincoat fits, is try it on.” She smiled beautifully. “I want you to try it on. Put it on now so we can have a look.”

My legs were spaghetti now. They refused to support my weight. I clung to the rail for support before weakly replying. “Uh… are you sure? I think it’ll fit just fine.”

“I’m sure.” Noelani’s voice was very firm; that sort of no-nonsense firmness that said, ‘I’m not kidding. Do as I say or else.’ She took the raincoat, which I hadn’t realized I was still holding, from my arms. “Come on, put it on now.” A note of steel had appeared in her voice and I knew that I had no choice except comply. This was as exciting as it was embarrassing. My heart was a clangorous bass drum as I obediently held my arm out for her. Not even Ripley’s would believe this, I thought while Noelani buttoned me into my raincoat. The last time anyone helped me do up my raincoat was years and years ago, when I was just knee-high to a grasshopper. My sales assistant hadn’t even bothered undo the hood of her raincoat, instead leaving it tightly tied in place. The great dome of plastic covering her hair bobbed up & downwards while she fastened the lowest pair of buttons. It was the most improbably erotic sight I’d ever seen. That this was happening inside the hubbub of a large department store only added to the increasing sense of unreality.

Noelani was all business now, pulling the belt as tight as it would go, sealing me inside a crystal-clear cocoon of plastic. “Ughh,” I grunted as she found another notch for the prong of the buckle. “That’s a bit tight.”

“It should be tight,” Noelani chuckled. “Do you want the wind to blow your raincoat away?”

“Er…no,” I reluctantly agreed. She had a point there.

“You know what a raincoat is for?” Noelani conversationally asked. Without waiting for my reply, she blandly continued, “It’s to protect you from the wind and rain. You don’t want to get wet or cold, do you?” Her smile was a supernova while she flipped the hood upwards and laced it as tightly as possible. “Now you are all ready for the rain.” Noelani was all sunshine and laughter.

“Mmm… yes, you could say that.” I glanced upwards. “I doubt it’ll rain inside here though.”

“Ok, you got me there,” Noelani giggled. She studied me critically. “It’s a perfect fit. You look lovely. It suits you very well.”

“T-thanks,” I shyly replied. I disbelievingly ran my hands down the impossibly smooth plastic.

“Do you like it?”

“Oh yes…” I gabbled. “It’s very nice. I really like it.”

Noelani’s smile was so warm that I felt my heart contract painfully. It would be so easy to fall in love with her, I knew. Not for the first time I cursed myself for my inability to say something really suave and witty. “It’s beautiful, isn’t it?” she agreed. Conspiratorially, “You know, I’ve already bought one for myself.”

“Really?” I exclaimed.

“Oh yes.” Noelani smiled. “I love wearing it.”

“I’m not surprised.” More than ever, I was certain that I had to be dreaming. The whole conversation was beyond surreal. Noelani hadn’t even undone the hood yet. “I’ve never seen anything like it before.”

“So… do you want to buy it?”

What could I say? She had me over a barrel. I could only nod mutely.

“Beautiful!” Noelani exclaimed. Her eyes met again. Slyly, “Do you want another one for your mum?”

“Um…” What could I say? She’d torn all of my defences down. Noelani had me over a barrel.

“Ok, why not?” I sighed. In for a penny, out for a pound. At $250 each, they would burn through a pretty fair chunk of my Christmas budget. Mum would never wear this. Oh well. What Noelani didn’t know wouldn’t hurt her.

“Awesome.” Noelani clapped her hands. “How do you want to pay for your raincoats?”

“Credit card, please.” I wasn’t looking forwards to farewelling Noelani. Her smile was a brilliant, dazzling sun. Until today, I’d never believed that there was any such thing as instant love. All I could think about was… ‘Down, boy!’ I sternly told myself. You know it’s not going to happen.

Realising that she couldn’t reach the pocket credit card reader sitting inside its holder on her belt, Noelani quickly undid her raincoat and neatly hung it on the rack with an ease borne of long experience. The unbelievable floor show was over.

After paying for two raincoats (and one matching jelly jacket), Noelani began folding my purchases. My heart was a cold, dark lump of coal while I began undoing the hood. It would not be long before I would have to leave.

“Hey!” Noelani glanced upwards. “Is it raining outside?”

Puzzled, I nodded. “It was very dark and gloomy when I came inside here. I think it was about to rain any minute.”

“Good.” Noelani stood and re-did the top button that I’d already undone. “You know what a raincoat is for, right?”
Without waiting for an answer, she continued lecturing me. “It’s for the rain. I want you to wear it.”

“Huh?” I was so stunned that I didn’t know what to say. “B-but…”

“But nothing.” Noelani folded her arms. Her smile was gone. If anything, the slight frown she now wore made her look even cuter than ever. “What did I just say? You’re not allowed to take your raincoat off.” Beseechingly, “I want you to wear it.”

I could hardly say no. Despite my acute embarrassment, I was secretly delighted that Noelani was interested enough to do this. The last time anyone forced me to wear a raincoat was my mother and that was years ago. I gazed into Noelani’s beautiful face. Well. Two could play at that game. “What time do you finish work?”

Thrown off balance, Noelani instinctively replied, “Nine o’clock. Why?”

“Ok, let’s catch up for coffee after you finish work and… I want you to wear your raincoat too.”

“Oh…” Noelani’s eyes widened with surprise. An awful silence followed.

My heart sank like a rock. As usual, I’d gone and stuffed it up. I should have known better than to think I might have a chance with the first (and only) person I’d ever truly wanted to be with.

“I would love to,” Noelani eventually replied. Smiling, “And I will wear my plastic raincoat too.”

*************************

The evening was an unqualified success. We talked and laughed all evening. Noelani never took her plastic mac off all evening – until arriving back at my place.

“Thank you very much for such a great evening,” Noelani murmured as she stood in front of me. Her rain-spotted mac glistened under the light as she began unbuttoning everything. “I really enjoyed myself.”

“Same here… more than I can say, my darling,” I replied. “I’m glad I met…” Noelani’s jacket dropped to the floor. Her skirt quickly followed. Only her crisp white blouse remained.

Noelani’s eyes never left mine while she slowly undid every button. “Oh my God..!” I breathed with utter disbelief as she flung her blouse aside. Her glass-clear plastic playsuit left nothing to the imagination.

“When I saw the way you looked at those raincoats earlier today, I knew you were the one I’d been looking for so long.” Noelani’s voice was whisper soft as she melted into my arms. “Girls like plastic too, you know.”

“Guys also like plastic too,” I murmured before unbuckling my pants. This time it was Noelani’s turn to be surprised.

Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it :)

To answer your question, I'm not a professional writer. I'm largely self-taught, but I was lucky enough to have a great English teacher at high school who taught me a great deal about good writing. I still remember one exercise where we had to write about ourselves in 500 words. Anyone who began a sentence with 'I' more than once was automatically failed. It sure made this essay interesting!
