Ponchos

Post by saxon12343 »

Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone knows how good or bad these are, as I saw them advertised and my thoughts went to kneeling in front of a guy underneath the poncho he is wearing:

MrDoudy says
I once went out for a walk in a torrential downpour one very hot summer day in just waders and a rubber ex-army poncho,

I always thought it a great shame that the rubber was on the outside of those army ponchos. I still have a couple, in fair condition, date stamped with the broad arrow around the nineteen forties. I bet non of todays stuff lasts that long.

Never had the pleasure of an oilskin cape
By the time i needed one, mid 60s thick yellow pvc cycling capes were the thing - they were / are nice , in a different way .
I bought one about 5 years and it feels and smells nice
Broad minded enough to acknowledge we all enjoy different things:)

Check out Ebay.
Search for 'Poncho Army Surplus'
Some good ones turn up and if you are lucky you can get the German army ones as these are rubber.
