Pakamacs and other plastic rainwear.

Post by PakamacMagic »

Hello everyone, A plea?

I have been a true lover of soft smooth filmy translucent plastic rainwear and things for sixty years, mainly genuine Pakamac's raincoats - my favourites - in filmy translucent gray, pale blue, and natural, as well as a variety of other plastic things, especially bedding and sleep suits from my rather large collection acquired of many years

For I just love soft smooth filmy translucent plastic, especial when wearing nothing else on at all, when appropriate that is, and try to wear it as much as I can, for I just love walks in the rain, I just wish I had someone to share my passion. hardly likely I think, but I live in hopes.

So do please let me know if you would like to discuss that same love, for there must be someone here who feels the same.

Incidentally, I really dislike rubber in all its forms, but each to his own, it’s just not for me.

Best wishes in soft smooth filmy plastic to all who appreciate it.

I love the original plastic pakamacs ( as well as other items). Fond memories of being fastened into my translucent plastic raincoat and enjoying the feelings it aroused.

Yes I have vivid recollections of being fastened into my pakamac during my teens. The too buttom always had to be fastened also. Mine were mainly nylon pakamacs but there was one notable plastic pakamac purchased too

I share the feelings of the original poster. For me they became widely popular just at the right time, soon after the plastic pants had been dispensed with for good. Almost every household had one or two hanging in the hallway or behind the kitchen door-where if you were lucky there might also be a pinny-and it was so easy surreptitiously to cop a feel of their mum's or sisters' when going around to your mates' houses.

I cannot say I had an original Pakamac but in the 70's I did have a nylon type mac that was worn for school on wet days. I suppose it was a Pakamac of sorts that came from the local school suppliers.

Now the closest I have is a long Nylon/Teflon coated raincoat from Rainmac.com in Charcoal colour. Or some Swiss Army issue polyester grey raincoats that are lightweight.

For some reason the school I went to didn't have any 'official' rainwear however one of the other schools in the city made their girls buy Navy Blue Nylon Macs (not sure if they were genuine Pacamacs or not) but I know I used to love rainy days when we'd meet up in the bus station on the way home

Lovely

I was put in a plastic Pakamac throughout my teen years in the 1950s to conserve my expensive navy blue gabardine which was kept for schoolwear only. At all other times I was expected to put on my plastic pakamac, securely buttoned to the collar, even if there was the slightest threat of rain. As my parents were short of money my Pakamac bought age 11 was bought really long, almost ankle length so it would last through till I left school age 18 when it was more or less the right length for my height. Naturally I was made fun of in the early years but I was sufficiently addicted to the look and feel of my plastic mac to carry on the habit into adulthood of wearing a plastic Pakamac for everday wear and keeping my best mac for work only. Sometime in the 1980s, visiting my aunt at the coast, it started to rain hard and as I had no raincoat with me, my plastic macs having long worn out, my aunt gave me a navy blue nylon mac that was clearly left over from a previous owner of the house as it buttoned the man's way. It too had the Pakamac label inside, was knee length, very plain, with four large buttons to the collar but I rather liked the slight humiliation of wearing such a dated and most would say dismal mac. You can't beat a Pakamac and I always look for the Pakamac label inside charity-shop plastic or nylon macs and the cheaper the mac, the greater the thrill at the find.
Such lovely recollections. Similar in many respects to mine. A pakamac was purchased for me whether I liked it or not.
