Re: Is Natural Rubber natural any more?

Weathervain used to have an enlivening aroma that made me think somehow of chocolate! I recently heard another brand described as having a niff of recycled tyres--natural or what(?!).

Is Natural Rubber natural any more?

In earlier times, the fragrance of a new mackintosh and the frisson it creates and the way that aroma plotted the ageing of that single-texture waterproof has apparently been banished. Is it that additives to hinder perishing are involved? A Lakeland Elements garment I had on approval some time ago ...

Rubber News

I remember there was at one time a Rubber News which I have only heard mention of by Gillian Freeman ; Rainwear Review * (an issue of which carried a picture of a model wearing satin Delby mackintosh with caption stating it had been purchased in Harrods and lamenting the fact that there was no ...

An enchanting redolence

I was descending the spiral steps from the organ loft of my university chapel in the dark when I was assailed by a ravishing fragrance. At the bottom, standing in a ray of sun, a woman in a brownish-yellow mackintosh was waiting to go up. An arresting odour simply exuded from that waterproof of hers ...

Rainwear Review

Oh! for the days of a 1950s mackintosh--of which, it seems, few photographs survive. I wonder--does anyone know where I can see a particular picture that I came across once in an issue of Rainwear Review ? I used it as inspiration for one of my paintings. I think it is a centre spread--of a woman in ...

I deleted this post as it was a copy of the last post (I don't know how that came about).

Re: Rainwear Fun WithSomeone?

Since this post of mine in which I identify Jessica I have completed eleven pieces or chapters and have to admit that it is turning into a novel and engaging a great deal of my spare time. Yesterday for instance I spend five hours in the coffee shop writing. Because this is now a 'work in progress ...

Re: Rainwear Fun WithSomeone?

It is here I re-established a fact—a piece of the jigsaw. My boredom was nothing new; it had taken longer to realise that no one could get me out of it, no one was possessed of sufficient imagination to come up with a successful distraction. ‘What can I do?’—I can hear the tone of my voice though I ...

Re: Rainwear Fun WithSomeone?

By The Horns
So I came to the top of the stone stairs facing the senior boys’ cloakroom and turned right to make my way to the Library. The corridor which stretched the length of the building was deserted as most of the classes would be in progress. I was, of course, thinking of the girls’ cloakroom ...

Re: Rainwear Fun WithSomeone?

A wild goose chase

A Presbyterian city having not yet emerged from the fifties—to be in love with a mackintosh—do you mind! I lay and thought of my secret life and the people who thought they knew me, little me trailing behind my mother down the sloping street curving round under the tall moss ...
