Hi Rothbhoy,

Thanks for finding this. I saw the original episode back in 1985 and got very excited. I think it may be the three-quarter length jackets sold by Debenhams around that time. I bought one, in pink. Such a lovely soft, smooth mac.

Nice find Rothbhoy !!!!

The white floral coat with the fur collar worn by the younger woman also seems to be plastic. Or am I just wishing it was ?

See-through plastic macs were obviously very popular in the 1950's. I should know because I grew up in those years. Thank you for posting.

Re: perfect raincoat design

For me.....
It must be soft semi-see-through/translucent plastic; definitely NOT thin polythene or even EVA.
It must be really soft plastic not stiff or crinkly.
Preferably pale pink or other pastel colours or natural. Definitely not glass clear.
It must have a hood, probably detachable.
Elasticated ...

Oh Rothbhoy, what a wonderful set of pictures. They certainly took me back to my childhood in the 1950's. Such lovely see-through plastic macs. I had seen the picture of the two ladies in their macs at the Whitsuntide marches before but I hadn't seen the others. I loved the photo of the young lad ...

Re: Museum (not explicit)

What a great story ! And thank you for going into the detail of the macs such as " frosty white, semi-transparent plastic raincoat". I really hate it when macs are simply described as "a PVC raincoat"; I really want to know whether if is see-through or not.

Re: Favourite ever piece of rainwear

It has to be the pale blue translucent plastic mac that my sister had nearly 70 years ago. When she wasn't wearing it it used to hang on the coat rack under the stairs. I loved to feel the soft plastic whenever I passed the mac. It came in a matching plastic pouch with a matching concertina rain hat ...
