Curiousb wrote: November 30th, 2019, 10:59 am I'm also a pacamic lover. I remember buying my first new pacamic from a shop called Big Six in Ambleside, cumbria, it was a shop which specialised soley in rainwear and on reflection must have been a fetish delight.

My pacamic was a black single breasted trench style with a belt and I loved wearing it over my suit on rainy days when going to work. The sound and feel was amazing.
Big Six was Arthur and Audrey Prescott's shop in Ambleside which preceded their Lakeland Elements operation. They were both very sociable and huge supporters of the Mackintosh Society in its early days. I for one am extremely grateful to them for supporting our "cause" for so long.

It may seem strange but I was asking this question earlier this week. I buy a lot of rainwear and although the proper Pakamacs were never really my thing driectly I do buy a few just to save them from landfill. In that case usually I'll monitor the local shops to see if one which is there in good condition finds a home or not. Ultimately if it doesn't they will reduce it to a paltry sum to try to get rid of it. I am noticing that more and more with Pakamacs that the little old ladies who used to buy them aren't buying as many. One of my local shops has tw really good examples at £3 each and there has been little interest shown in them. If you are interested in Pakamacs this is the time the charity shops have the most of them with the onset of winter and at very cheap prices.

Mrdoudy I have a couple of those 5 button pacamacs. Had to wear one as a child at school. Hated them then but love them now.

Having started the topic, I have to admit, I have never owned a proper packamac. In fact as a child I never had a plastic mac of any kind, but access to plastic pants meant for my younger brothers. I did have a navy nylon mac, a rubbery lined nylon cagoule (over the head style), unlined nylon sports shorts and a shiny jacket that looked like plastic but was sort of shiny cotton (looked nicer than it felt). Despite all his nylon, my first love is unlined plastic.

To be honest, I've really enjoyed the resurgence of the heavier duty rainwear content on the site recently, the photos Phee and Rachel have been sharing have reignited my interest in the site, I have to admit, the way the site was becoming mac and cagoule orientated over the past year was making me consider leaving as that's not really my thing, but I'll hang in there for a while given the upturn in interest for me.

I am from denmark and love nylon raincoats. I have most nylon coats but also have some PVC rain pockets.I love my nylon raincoats and wear them everyday. Even if it doesn't rain.

The pakamac was always the raincoat of choice for my mother. In milder months worn alone wheb it rained. In cooler months, worn over a lined mackintosh

I had no choice and this was the way all the way through school, buttoned to the neck

I am lucky enough to have been around when see-through plastic macs (including Pakamacs) were worn by almost everyone during the 1950's. I also enjoyed seeing many women wearing see-through plastic macs during the late 1970's/early 1980's. I am now over 70 years old and still enjoy wearing my plastic rainwear both indoors and outdoors. We are still around.

Being a child of the 70s to mid 80s my pakamac of choice (Or rather the choice of mother) was the nylon variation rather than plastic although I was bought a plastic one when I was 13 and hated it.
