Unless my memory is playing tricks, Polly James and Nerys Hughes both looked very nice in plastic macs in "The Liver Birds".

Coronation Street does a good job with PVC wearing women. There have been 2 or 3 recently. I well remember Yootha Joyce too.

Never that keen on Yootha Joyce-just a bit too over the top for me. Anita Dobson looked nice in her shiny black mac in Eastenders.

I think that the characters are often dressed in such raincoats to say something about their characters. In the early days of 'Eastenders', it was strongly implied that 'Angie' (Anita Dobson) offered 'special services' to 'Tony Carpenter' (Oscar James), which required them to go upstairs.
On one ccasion, Cathy (Gillian Taylforth), during one of her absences from the programme, made a one-off appearance at the 'Queen Vic' wearing a shiny black mac. Sadly, it was the one and only time we saw her in it.
