WW2 Oilskins

Post by plasphil »

I have always been fascinated with protective clothing worn during the war. This all started when as a child I had a set of cigarette cards titled 'Air Raid Precautions' which some of you may have seen. Now we are in the internet age it is slowly getting easier to find images taken at the time. Over the years I have collected quite a few and the attached are two of my favourites.

The first one I believe shows women washing contaminated materials, suitably dressed for protection. The second one is of an air raid gas attack exercise, although if the picture was taken today it could be a que to get into a fetish nightclub!!

Imagine you are the man in the middle of the picture what are your thoughts and feelings?
