Handmade PU mackintosh?

Post by garykane » January 21st, 2019, 4:25 pm

Spotted a Lady wearing the most delightful ankle-length, hooded PU mackintosh in town while I was out shopping this morning. A rarity in itself but even more enjoyable to see since the sun was out, highlighting it's glossy finish on a rather cold, but bright winter's day.

After seeing her in the street, I marked it down as a great moment.

But half an hour later, we virtually bumped into each other in an isle one of the food stores and I found myself blurting on how lovely her mackintosh looked and asked her if she minded me telling me where she had bought it.

She said it was handmade, to her specifications, and that she had another black one by the same company, and two others, one red, one yellow by the same company, which she wore depending on which football team she was going to watch in the Midlands!

Sadly, she couldn't recall the name of manufacturer, but was good enough to take the mackintosh off in the middle of the store to try and find the maker's name for me. Alas, there were no clues and we parted company.

It was the briefest of encounters, something I've never done before.

I'm just wondering if anyone knows of a company, perhaps based in the Midlands, who will make PU mackintoshes to order.

Sounds delightful! Try Caroline at Cathouse Creations. She made a stunning hat for my lovely lady about 5 years ago, exactly correct size and pattern and (based only on a pic I sent her). I felt her charges were very reasonable.

I'm not sure who makes them, but I just have to say it's excellent that you saw a woman wearing a mac like that in person! :3

Cocoon used to have a shop in Birmingham, full of rubber, PVC and plastic wear. Then closed shop and went on line. Not sure if still active, but they also used to make stuuf to measure

Hi Zara, I thought so you. It was a fabulous mackintosh, more like a vintage cloak with folds and folds of swishy pvc.... and the Lady really stood out in the crowds.

Hi johnnybr. I'll check them out. Went to their shop many, many years ago but I think at that time it was in Kidderminster?
