Help with Condor Yellow SBR Coat please

Post by maxulike »

I am interested in the Condor yellow SBR raincoat, from Zoro (and Grainger). In one of Olympic's posts he said that these are like the Weatherite coats. Unfortunately I have no experience of Weatherite. If you do not mind my asking, does anyone know if these Condor coats actually smell of rubber? and if so, to what extent? I understand (from Wikipedia) that SBR is actually a synthetic rubber. which is a bit confusing, as some manufacturers state "All our products are manufactured from NATURAL RUBBER" but advertise SBR coats. Some so called "SBR/Rubber" coats that I have seen have no aroma and
seem to me to be more like plastic/PVC.

I see that it should be possible to buy a Condor SBR coat from Zoro in the US and have it sent to UK via a site called myus.com. As far as I can see Zoro will not ship to UK direct. Myus charge around £25 to ship a package of this size, so it seems to work out as quite reasonable for an SBR coat.

Sorry - I originally posted this in the wrong place.

I think some confusion arises from the fact that SBR used to refer to mackintoshes made from a shiny black rubber proofed Wigan cloth. It would appear that since the advent of synthetic rubbers and polymers it has become to refer to styrene-butadiene rubber. Very confusing to us oldies

I have the yellow Condor SBR jacket and overalls so I can answer your questions!

To start off, yes the material has a fantastic smell of rubber. I have had my jacket and overalls for 5-6 years now and the aroma is still there but not as strong as when I first got it. It is very loud, crackly and creaky to wear. They're a great piece of gear to have. Probably around April or May I will be buying the long coat and detachable hood to wear out in torrential downpours during the late spring and summer months.

Many thanks TStorm56 for the helpful and encouraging reply and video links. Do you know any supplier who will send these direct to UK. I can only find Zoro and Grainger in the US.

I just checked around on eBay, the long coat had international shipping but was in size 4XL which would be gigantic to wear. I did find the rubber rain jacket and rain overalls in size large. It will ship internationally. If you're wanting just the coat then I would check the US version of eBay maybe once a week to see if there is a new listing for it.

Thanks again.
I should probably try ordering from Zoro with the MyUS shipping service. If I do I will report back on how I get on. I wonder if I will be stung for import duty?

If you check the videos which Tstorm56 posted links to in his reply to my original question, the mac looks quite soft and swishy!

yes these raincoats and jackets do have the rubber smell especially when they are at room temp. or after wearing them. they are worth EVERY PENNY! THE price is well under 100$ usd and if you are in the states you can buy today and have next day! they have the cape vent on the rear, and a stand up collar. canvas lining and yellow rubber outter. you can also buy a snap on hood for the raincoat and the jacket has an attached hood. they also sell long rubber pants.
