Rubber, PVC or Neoprene waders?

Post by spitfire617 »

Which would be best?

I am looking too purchase my first pair of waders.
Nothing to expensive as they will only be used occasionally.

And just for photographic use.
Can be either thigh or chest type.

Any thoughts?

I prefer rubber, but they are probably the most expensive and difficult to find these days.

Another vote for rubber as it's more flexible and a smoother finish, and definitely chest type (the more the better).

Another vote for rubber. My wife and I both have the black/yellow Lacrosse hip boots, as well as brown rubber Hodgeman waders. They're useful as heavy raingear, of course, especially when one/both of us is dressed in latex and needs the extra warmth and protection of a rubber hip boot.

They're also a favorite accessory in the bedroom (or balcony, or ferry, or a friend's kitchen table, or....) - one of my all-time favorite sights has got to be my wife in a pair of rubber hip boots and a hooded yellow Friesennerz slicker. Yum!
