My era would be the 1960s. I remember wearing a boys Pakamac. This was the start of my love of plastic/PVC. In later years nylon was a favourite, but when I discovered PUL, I got back into PVC. At first I wore only at home, but now I wear "out and about" too.

The 90s, although I'm not going by the description in the OPs list.

I was born in 1988 so I pretty much grew up in the 1990s and my first raincoat was a PVC one like this one from Etsy.....

I've always been more into the cutesy colourful ones.
Think mine was from Peacocks, pretty sure they used to sell them until about 2004 or something.

I'd say the same about cagoules (90s): as a kid I didn't like cagoules I thought they were lame and embarrassing and when made to wear one felt like such a spanner.

My first one was when I was about 5 or 6, it was black or navy blue and I loathed that thing.

I also remember being slightly judgmental of a few people for wearing them to. Not to there face it was kind of just a silly internal judgment and I didn't stop being friends with cagoules wearers I just thought there jacket choice was lame.

Then in my 20s the lameness of being seen in one became a fetish and the ones I remember most are the ones from the 90s or so era.

Shame really, because the so called "90s rainwear" that I look for is getting harder to find and people don't really wear that stuff anymore.

I would have to say the 1970's. At the time RUKKA mackintoshes were quite popular but there were lots of other PVC Rainwear around also.
I think the end of the 1980s though saw the last of the wide availability of my favourite raingear - SBR Trenchcoats and long, Black, shiny and heavy PVC macs such as those in the 40's and 50's worn in TV series like the Prisoner or the Avengers era.

I loved going to Government surplus stores or the Army & Navy stores and being able to try on and purchase heavy PVC raingear. It would be sold everywhere such as Marine Boat chandler shops, second hand shops and not just being popular in the High street stores.

I am lucky enough to have grown up during the 1950's when it seemed that everyone had a plastic mac, ladies wearing lovely see-through macs in various pastel colours seemed to be the norm while men had no choice except for black or grey. I loved my sister's pale blue translucent plastic mac and loved feeling it when no-one was looking.
Plastic macs disappeared in the early 1960's to be replaced by the dreaded nylon mac. I was so glad when, around 1977, see-through plastic rainwear made a comeback and, again, most women seemed to be wearing them. However, they had mostly disappeared again by about 1983 although I did see them in C&A until 1989.

for me as an oldie its has to be the old type rubber liked cotton mackintoshes that I loved as a youngster. some lovely macs were about then especially my elder cousins green school mackintosh lined with green rubber and a big hood. I adored that green mac. she hated her mac and it was thrown in the bin but I managed to rescue it. I kept the lovely mac a long time and though it no longer fitted me I slept with it in bed. then along came my other favorite the shiny cotton backed pvc macs from the 60s/70s. now these macs are very hard to get hold of but luckily I do have a collection of them, some I got from past girlfriends of other girl I know.

For me it's definitely the late 80's/early 90's. I have a special interest in the wippette brand rainwear and other brands that followed a lot of their designs like items international, shedrain, etc. my wife and I have loads of the wippette/slippery when wet raincoats and they are absolutely fantastic. My only problem is people that attempt to hold you over the coals for them on eBay. We also have a ton of the 80's style pvc/rayon coats. And around this time of year, the wife loves the shiny insulated pvc raincoats. Wippette made quite a few styles of them as well. I always say if I had a time machine, I'd go back to the 90's and buy up everything that tj maxx and marshall's had in stock!

It's also a song by Dazz Band...

♫♫Let's wippette baby, Child, let's wippette right
Get a grip, let's wippette baby, work it all night
Well what's your trip
Come on let it whip♫♫

I am from Europe, and in the early 90s, when I visited the U.S. many times , I had discovered, that there were many shiny raincoats for sale in the shops and department stores, e.g. JC Penney had lots of Kenn Sporn for Wippette style coats, many of them unlined, 100% shiny PVC.
Then I discovered that Shedrain, Betmar and Items International and Aqua Sheen had a lot of nice shiny unlined PVC coats and jackets. Later, in the late 90s they disappeared in the department stores and shops. But they re-appeared in the thrift stores,
so I went to the thrift stores where they occasionally had a few.
I grew up in the 70s, so during this decade, when I went to school from 1971 to 1981, many of my female classmates had shiny raincoats : shiny Cotton backed PVC raincoats, shiny unlined macs in red, blue, white, with polka dots, or checkered. Especially C&A and Woolworth had a huge selection of shiny rainwear.
Between 1971 and 1981, when it was a rainy day, I have seen many many classmates wearing shiny raincoats, even with wellies and southwesters. Wearing raincoats was not "uncool" at that time, and many teenager girls really adored their shiny raincoats.
It was very hip and cool to wear shiny plastic rainwear, and every girl that had a shiny raincoat, was so proud of it and liked to wear it. That were wonderful times.
Unfortunately, in the 80s, the shiny PVC raincoats disappeared from the shops and from the streets.
