A big problem with those site for me is the Google Ads - it means they are making money from it and I'm not cool with that.
Here on RainwearCentral there is no google ads or any other ways in which the site makes money, it is purely a gift to the community.

Maybe I should install a gallery add on for this instance of phpBB ?

That's the one thing this website is missing.

a gallery would be cool. Personally I have no problem with sites having ads to pay for them. As long as they arent too intrusive and cover the whole page why would site owners not want to make some money to cover the running costs.

My monthly bandwidth bill was USD$50 (sometimes even higher) for Tied and True Tales: hence the absolute necessity for advertisements to cover these rather high running costs - however, the beauty of hosting my own website was the editorial independence I received in deciding who, and where they could advertise on T&TT.

It also enabled me to position ads so they would not detract from the visitors viewing experience.

That's something you don't have to put up with a lot of often dodgy "free hosts" - which sics porno (or online casino) adverts crawling with viruses and other undesirable Net germs on unfortunate visitors.

You can now post pics here on this forum using the attach feature in the Pictures & Videos sub forum.

Enjoy.

HDRainwear is running, and I'm trying to keep it going, but it's hard to find time to maintain it.

Sometimes, servers crash (remarkably often - I've tried several hosts and all the same), sites get hacked, spammers start posting, and it's hard work keeping these things under control.

Despite using the most recent and stable software, these things can still happen, and when spammers hear of a site they can post to, they pay the chinese / indians $0.001 per captcha to hack, and you can't control that - that's why I had to put a halt on suitsandboots. Suits and boots went down the other day because someone managed to upload some phishing pages to the server - now I have to try and track down how this happened, and keep an eye on the other sites. Getting threatened with legal action by the bank of america isn't funny!

Rainwear247 was just an experiment, and I never meant it to grow the way it did. As far as saying it's died - well that's down to the community, not me! I just setup these sites - if people want to use them, that's their choice.

And if I'm wrong for making money from ads to help pay for hosting etc, then don't use the sites - or any of the other millions of sites that do the same. In my mind it's better to keep these sites free than charge a subscription (see how this thread started).

Regnfrakker

Post by SOU'WESTER_lovers »

Coming the website Regnfrakker to get started again?

Top of this site, there are three pictures. Picture number one, you are from South Africa. Picture number two is you from far away in the Philippines, Australia or wherever you live. Picture number three is Kitty from Denmark, who runs Regnfrakker together with her husband. Can not Kitty, or any other of the three of you ask Kitty on the website Regnfrakker will get started again? I suppose you other two, probably in contact occasionally with Kitty.

I have been inside the website, from the start, then Kitty and her husband started the website. I was also inside the home, which existed before they took over. I've always liked the website.
